ABOUT US

The Cambridge Yacht Club Foundation (“CYCF”) is a corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.  CYCF’s mission is to promote and support youth-oriented sailing and maritime-focused educational activities in the greater Choptank River region.

Governed by an independent Board of Directors, CYCF will achieve its mission through support of organizations who provide training activities, water/maritime-related events, equipment and facilities, and scholarships for youth education and the capital requests of these organizations. We seek to support organizations who educate and promote the advancement of seamanship and maritime knowledge, while instilling the values of fitness, self-reliance, responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship. A focus on safety and respect for the maritime environment are paramount.

FAQ

Does the Foundation accept both restricted and general restricted unrestricted donations?

The Foundation accepts both restricted and unrestricted donations. Restricted donations currently may only be restricted for use with the CYC Junior Sailing program. Unless you indicate that your Donation is restricted for Junior Sailing, which you can do using our online “Donate” button above, your Donation will be available for all Foundation programs, including Junior Sailing. In order to help fund the Foundation, which is all-volunteer, 15% of restricted donations are made available for general purposes.

Can I donate a boat or other equipment to the Foundation?

Please contact CYCF if you wish to donate equipment. At the moment, CYCF is only accepting donations of sailboats and only on a case-by-case basis. Boats must be of the type currently used by the junior sailing programs. Boats must be in good or better condition and come with all sails and other equipment necessary to make them sailable and safe without further expense to the Foundation. All potential donations must be titled/documented and free of all encumbrances.

Do you offer naming rights on Junior Sailing boats/sails?

Please contact CYCF if you wish to receive naming rights on junior sailing boats or sails. This type of donation is considered on a case-by-case basis.

Are my donations to the Foundation tax deductible?

Only your tax adviser can fully answer this question, and circumstances may vary, however, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity and by and large the full amount of your donation should be tax deductible.
